Petz Computer Game

Since Petz is such an old game, it is difficult to get new people to play. My hope is that by sharing where to install the game here, that more people will find the game and join the 'petz community' of petz players both old and young (there are people in their 30's and older that still play the game. Here is the video game “Dogz: Your Computer Pet”! Released in 1995 on Windows 3.x, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's a simulation game and it was released on Mac as well.

Petz: Dogz 2 is an adorable adventure game about dogs, released all the way back in 2007. It's simple, vibrant, and a boatload of fun to mess around in, so if that sounds like something you'd enjoy then I definitely recommend you get your hands on this cute game and try it for yourself.

Choosing your dog

  1. PC virtual pet video games offer a variety of video games focused on digital pets, including: 'Petz': The 'Petz' franchise, which includes five versions each of the 'Dogz' and 'Catz' games, invites the player to adopt cats or dogs, raise them to adulthood, reward or punish them for their behavior, and breed them to create new pets.
  2. Petz is a fandom that covers the Petz computer games released by P.F. Magic between 1995 and 2002. The title 'Petz' refers to the combination of two games, Dogz and Catz, which revolve around adopting puppies and kittens, feeding and playing with them, and other activities like training and breeding them.

In Petz: Dogz 2, you get to play as a dog, and you even get to choose the breed you want! There are 40 options ranging from small dog breeds to big ones, so have a scroll through them all when you start up a new save file and pick your favourite. They're all incredibly adorable, so good luck choosing just one! Additionally, you get to name your dog whatever you want, so take advantage of that and maybe even consider naming your virtual dog after your real one if you own one!

A story about a magic hat

Believe it or not, this game has a story mode for you to enjoy! It's centred around a magic hat that you and your friend get tricked into giving away to an evil wolf called Ivlet. The hat has special powers which Ivlet uses to wreak havoc across the Dog Island you all live on, so it’s your mission to track him down and retrieve the hat while helping other animals along the way. It may sound like a silly story, but it’s actually really cute, and although you may not enjoy it if you're older, younger players are sure to love it.

Fun with minigames

A lot of Petz: Dogz 2 revolves around minigames, which are played throughout the main adventure by talking to wild animals in the world, but they can also be accessed from the menu screen. There are so many different ones, including races, flying games, and even treasure hunts, so be sure to try them all out!Alongside these minigames, you’ve also got a fishing minigame which triggers every time you try to catch a fish. That’s right, you can even go fishing! There are quite a lot of unexpected features in this game so prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

Petz: Dogz 2 is a really charming game that’s somewhat reminiscent of Nintendogs, at first, but is closer in gameplay style to Animal Crossing, if I'm honest. Though it may seem like a kids game, it has a lot more depth to it than you may think, so I’d definitely recommend you download Petz: Dogz 2 for yourself and give it a go, regardless of your age.

Pros:

  • Range of dog breeds to choose from, with fur customisation options sometimes available too
  • Vibrant open world environment with a fun soundtrack
  • Controls are simple and super easy to get the hang of
  • Lots of different minigames to try
Computer

Cons:

  • The graphics aren’t amazing and are quite outdated
  • The game isn’t super long and can be completed within a few hours
Overall rating: 7

How to play Catz: Your Computer Petz Windows

Did manage to install the game on Windows XP (VMWare). Had to enable compatibility with Win95 on the setup and the game. Several errors pop during setup, but the game should work anyway.
